Vincent Van Gogh once said, “Great things are not done by impulse, but by a series of small things brought together.” While he may have been speaking about art, this certainly applies to every aspect of life, especially our health.
Good overall health doesn’t come by accident (or on impulse); one must make an intentional decision to become the healthiest version of themselves. This often requires making small changes that have a huge and lasting impact.
If you’re ready to start your “series of small things” when it comes to your health, consider adding one or more of these wellness products to your daily routine:
Also called essential oil therapy, aromatherapy has been around for hundreds of years. These oils are made from extracting compounds from plants that benefit our bodies and minds in one way or another. Many people view essential oils as a healthier alternative to candles, but they are so much more than that.
Aromatherapy is beneficial for:
- Reducing anxiety
- Improving quality of sleep
- Relieving stress
Essential oils can also be used to create non-toxic cleaning products and beauty products.
2. Dry skin brushing
Dry skin brushing is a simple habit that helps create bright, glowing skin, boost circulation, and encourage lymphatic drainage.
To experience these benefits, simply buy a body brush with firm, natural bristles and use it every night before going to bed. Your skin must be completely dry. Since your body already eliminates toxins at night, dry brushing will optimize this process!
Start at the ankles and move up with light with pressure and upward motions. Follow the circulatory system and always brush towards the heart (this is very important!).
Be sure to give extra attention to under your upper arms because that is where many lymph nodes are located. Don’t forget the palms of your hands and soles of your feet! Lastly, avoid any areas of your body that have cuts, bumps, or are sensitive so you don’t cause further irritation.
Our final tip: clean the brush every few days with soap and water.
For those with extra sensitive skin, dry brushing may not be an option. Talk to a dermatologist before trying it.
3. Air purifiers
Indoor air is much more likely to be filled with airborne allergens and irritants than outdoor air. Unfortunately, this can lead to several overall health issues, such as asthma, allergies, poor sleep, cardiovascular and neurological disorders, and cancer.
Air purifiers significantly reduce these pollutants by circulating the air more often through high-quality filters. Air purifiers with HEPA and carbon filters are the safest options.
For the best experience, place an air purifier in the rooms you spend the most time in, such as the living room and bedrooms.
4. Blue light blocking glasses
Blue light has been around since the dawn of time. It emits from the sun, just like all other colors of light, such as red, green, indigo, and orange. However, we are now more exposed to it than ever through our phones, tablets, and laptops.
Too much screen time can lead to musculoskeletal and physiological issues as well as eye problems. More specifically, too much blue light exposure can lead to:
- Poor sleep
- Attention focusing issues
Blue light blocking glasses are especially beneficial for those who work on the computer all day. Limiting screen time outside of working hours and especially before going to sleep are two more ways to drastically reduce blue light exposure.
