Heather Tallman Ruhm, M.D.
Dr. Tallman Ruhm, known to her patients as Dr. Heather, is a Medical Doctor and licensed Family Physician dedicated to helping people reach optimal wellness and improve their quality of life. As Medical Director of a truly integrative medical and dental center, Dr. Heather provides evaluations, consultations and guidance in a team-care approach to people of all ages who take an active role in their health and want to partner with an expert to make more informed health care decisions. Her conventional medical training and knowledge of alternative therapies augments the offerings of primary care providers who may not be as well versed in alternative healing arts, or lack adequate time to address their patient’s concerns.
She recognizes that one-size-fits-all medicine does not fit all and approaches each patient as a complex integrated human being (not a collection of separate parts), appreciating the interdependent biological systems that collectively comprise the human body. She thoughtfully considers personal stories, life circumstances, signs and symptoms to create an individualized plan of self-care and encourages her patients to play an active role in their own self-care, knowing that we all must “start where we are.”
Dr. Heather is a passionate student of the biomedical sciences and received her MD from the University of New Mexico School of Medicine after earning a Master’s in Public Policy from the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard. She completed her family medicine training in Colorado and Alabama and has since specialized in prevention, restoration, and whole-person medicine (mind-body-spirit-community). She has worked in several integrative clinics, collaborating with other holistic practitioners and therapists.
On a personal note, Dr. Heather is an avid gardener, cook, and life-long competitive athlete. She loves nature and the great outdoors. She is a singer, songwriter, yoga teacher, and mother (and has hosted many international exchange students). She now lives in New England with her husband, but hails from Montana where she attended Montana State University. Along with English, she is conversational in German, Dutch and Spanish.
