What are porcelain veneers?
Porcelain veneers are strong, ultra-thin shells that dentists adhere to the front surface of the teeth using a powerful dental adhesive. The purpose of dental veneers is to cover slight smile imperfections, such as:
- Discolored teeth or teeth that are resistant to whitening treatments
- Chipped or broken teeth
- Gaps in the teeth
- Slightly crooked teeth
- Worn teeth
Dental professionals custom make porcelain veneers to match their patients’ unique aesthetic, personality, and preferred tooth color. The result is a beautiful smile that looks fantastic and feels even better!
Getting Started with Veneers
The first step in the dental veneer process is a biological dental assessment. Our team will thoroughly examine your mouth and discuss your medical history and oral health goals. Then, we will take x-rays to ensure that the underlying tissues of your mouth are healthy.
Next, we will conduct materials testing. At Well Rooted, all of the materials that we use are biocompatible, but we guarantee your safety by running tests, like MELISA testing.
Finally, we will remediate any dental health issues that we find during your exam. It is always our goal to treat underlying health issues before proceeding with cosmetic dental procedures.
The Treatment Process
Typically, patients can expect to get their porcelain veneers in as little as two office visits. At the first office visit, our team will begin by removing a small amount of enamel from your teeth. Next, our team takes oral impressions to send off to a dental lab. The lab will craft your unique porcelain veneers in approximately two to four weeks.
While you’re waiting for your personalized veneers, our team places temporary veneers on your teeth. The temporary veneers will protect your teeth until our team can permanently bond your custom-made veneers.
After the lab sends back your finished product, we will schedule an appointment to place your dental veneers. At this appointment, our team will ensure that your porcelain veneers fit well before permanently bonding them to your teeth.
Maintaining Your New Smile
Dental professionals intend for veneers to last for decades. However, patients must properly care for their veneers in order to enjoy them for that long. Dentists recommend that patients maintain and protect their smile investment by:
- Brushing after meals or at least twice a day
- Flossing at least once a day
- Rinsing with antibacterial mouthwash to prevent cavities
- Avoiding sticky, chewy, or hard foods
- Visiting a biological dentist regularly (the American Dental Association recommends at least every 6 months!)
